Thornhill Community Centre Amenity Closures for Major Energy Retrofit Project

The Thornhill Community Centre will undergo a major energy retrofit project that will affect some amenities. This project supports Markham’s commitment to reducing energy and Green House Gas Emissions and is aligned with the City’s Municipal Energy Plan target of achieving net zero Green House Gas emissions by 2050. We conduct maintenance at our recreation facilities to enhance the quality and safety of our amenities.

The project will be completed in three phases from June 2 to 22, 2025. We plan to reopen all amenities the week of June 23 and appreciate your understanding during this closure.

Phase 1 - June 2

Full community centre closure with no access to the building.

Phase 2 - June 3 to 8

Fitness centre, fitness washrooms/showers, group fitness studio, gymnasium and pool remain closed.
All other building amenities are reopened.
Group fitness classes will still be running and relocated to another area in the building.

Phase 3 - June 9 to 22

Fitness washrooms/showers, group fitness studio, gymnasium, and pool remain closed.
Fitness centre workout space is reopened. During this time, fitness members and patrons can access a temporary washroom trailer outdoors or walk around the building to the west entrance.
Group fitness classes will still be running and relocated to another area in the building.

Please enjoy your favourite sport drop-in, public swim, aquafit classes at one of our other locations across the City.

The closest gymnasium and pool are at Thornlea Gym and Pool (8079 Bayview Avenue).
